The Midwest Innocence Project will honor Ellen Suni, dean of the UMKC School of Law, at its annual fundraiser in Kansas City on April 25. Author John Grisham will be the special guest speaker at the fundraiser. To learn more about the event, visit the Midwest Innocence Project.
The organization does pro-bono legal work to seek exoneration and freedom for people wrongfully convicted of crimes. Grisham’s nonfiction book “The Innocent Man” was based on the cases of Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz. Fritz serves on the MIP Board and will attend the event at the Sheraton Crown Center. Williamson died in 2004.
UMKC and MIP recently co-hosted the National Innocence Project at the School of Law, bringing in more than 400 project directors, lawyers and investigators, including approximately 100 exonerees from all over the world.
