Dean Sharon Bostick has accepted the position of Dean of Libraries at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago. She will be leaving UMKC July 31, 2012.
During Dean Bostick’s seven years at UMKC’s University Libraries, she led a major strategic planning process, and helped guide architects, consultants, and constituents in the vision and design of Miller Nichols Library’s expansion and renovation project, which included the installation of RooBot, our Automated Storage and Retrieval System.
In addition, under Dean Bostick’s leadership the Libraries received a $500,000 gift from the Andrew Mellon Foundation to catalog a rare collection of transcription disks, increased the libraries’ diversity profile, and expanded the university’s visibility in the metropolitan area through an increased number of collaborative community projects. The University Libraries recognition as the Missouri Library Association’s 2010 Library of the Year Award is a testament to Dean Bostick’s many achievements.
Within the next few weeks, I will be speaking with our University Libraries’ Librarians and staff and announcing an Interim Dean, who will work with Dean Bostick for a seamless transition. I will also seek their suggestions during the search process for a permanent dean.
Please join me in expressing appreciation to Dean Bostick for her many contributions to UMKC and in wishing her continued success at IIT.
Gail Hackett, Ph.D.
