Since September 2010, Dr. Memcha Loitongbam has been a visiting Fulbright Scholar at the UMKC Bloch School of Management’s Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership. Dr. Loitongbam, who will be at the Center through April 30, brings valuable global research exchange in nonprofit management.
“I am so happy to be in Kansas City doing my research,” beams visiting Fulbright Scholar Memcha Loitongbam. “Everyone here is so nice and so helpful.”
Dr. Loitongbam comes from Manipur, India. Her current research, which broadly addresses how the U.S. provides resources and education to develop successful nonprofit leadership, led her to search out university-based centers that specialize in nurturing nonprofit leaders.
“In my search I came up with Harvard, and the Midwest Center at UMKC,” Dr. Loitongbam said. “They were the two universities top in the type of research I was looking for, but the Midwest Center’s research was easier to access and when I contacted them they were very responsive. I knew it was the right place for me.”
Ultimately, Dr. Loitongbam hopes to bring what she learns in the U.S. back to India, where nonprofit organizations (NPOs) are plentiful, but there is little knowledge of how to manage them successfully.
More information about Dr. Loitongbam’s research is available on the Bloch School of Management’s News website.
