Higher Education Opportunity Act – Textbook disclosure

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments · Faculty, Government and Higher Education

Textbooks[Highlights of the “Textbook Information” section and important links about HEOA appear at the Disruptive Library Technology Jester blog. The following was provided by Doug Swink, Registrar, Office of Registration and Records, UMKC’s Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Division.]

In August 2008, the Higher Education Act was reauthorized with the passage of the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA).  With the law’s passage, colleges and universities must make textbook information readily available to students via the online schedule of classes (searchable or printable).

To comply with this new regulation, the Registration & Records Office has made the UMKC Bookstore link available to students in a variety of locations: Pathway’s Student Center; Pathway’s Schedule of Classes; and online printable schedule of classes.

How can you help as an instructor? Provide your textbook orders to the bookstore as early as possible to ensure that students have the most up to date textbook information as they begin to review summer and fall class schedules. Ideally, students should be aware of required textbooks at the time of registration. This gives them the opportunity to purchase textbooks early and to better prepare for classes.

HEAO’s textbook provisions officially take effect on July 1, 2010. For more information contact Doug Swink, Registrar.
