UMKC School of Medicine and Research Medical Center sign affiliation agreement

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine and Research Medical Center (RMC) have signed an affiliation agreement to develop and provide joint undergraduate, post-graduate and fellowship medical training programs. The agreement will also allow the two institutions to cooperate in promoting and enhancing faculty development, education and biomedical research.

“Research Medical Center’s affiliation with the UMKC School of Medicine is about our continuing effort to make us a better hospital. It has been proven that teaching environments in hospitals challenge everyone to pursue excellence. UMKC is a quality organization and we are proud of our evolving partnership,” said Kevin J. Hicks, CEO at Research Medical Center.

Currently, the UMKC School of Medicine maintains residency, fellowship and other academic programs at Truman Medical Centers, the Center for Behavioral Medicine (formerly Western Missouri Mental Health Center), Saint Luke’s Hospital, Children’s Mercy Hospital and the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

“The UMKC School of Medicine has a long history of affiliation with Research Medical Center and the physicians who practice there. We are very pleased to be able to partner with RMC to train physicians who will ultimately care for patients in this community,” said Betty M. Drees, M.D., Dean of the UMKC School of Medicine. “This agreement furthers and enhances the UMKC School of Medicine’s commitment to provide exceptional medical education, support basic science and clinical research and to advance the health of our community.”

The agreement will automatically renew every five years and will include shared academic and administrative appointments and joint efforts to recruit Residents and Fellows into the programs at RMC.
