Becky Pottebaum

Pottebaum began working at UMKC in January of 2010. She works in the Business Office of the School of Medicine as an Administrative Associate, where she assists in HR and fiscal matters. She likes the comradery that exists not only in her school, but between different departments and schools across campus.

Becky Pottebaum is an active member of Staff Council as the chair of the Advocacy Committee. Her Staff Council involvement spurs from Pottebaum’s desire to get to know other employees. Joining the Advocacy Committee allows her a chance to be a voice and advocate for other staff members.

This committee has already discussed a number of issues this year, including the Faculty/Staff Campaign, the university name change possibility, and an upcoming series of articles to address different issues shared between employees. Working with the Communications Committee, a top priority Pottebaum and the Advocacy Committee have been developing is how to solicit and strengthen avenues of communication for staff to share ideas, give honest feedback, and create safe and open dialogue for all employees through Staff Council and other resources.

Outside of work, Pottebaum is mom to a young son, AJ, who just turned one in September, and keeps her very busy. He enjoyed his second Halloween and had two costumes – a lion and a bear. Now, if only he had also dressed up like a tiger…oh my!
