I am originally from Los Angeles, CA. I relocated to Kansas City, MO, after graduating in 2012 from Howard University (Washington, DC) to work at Cerner Corporation. I was there for nearly two years when I decided I wanted to pursue a career in higher education. Living in Kansas City has been a wonderful experience for me. I have earned my Master’s degree in Organizational Development Psychology from Avila University and have been accepted into the UMKC’s IPhD. Program beginning Fall 2015. I have been with the university for one year and am very excited for the opportunity to serve as Secretary on the UMKC’s Staff Council Executive Board. It resonates with my belief that the best work is done as a team. ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ – African Proverb

Steve graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia for his Bachelor’s and Avila University for his Master’s in Counseling Psychology, and is currently working on his Doctorate at UMKC in higher education. Steve, his wife, 3 ½ year old daughter Blake, and almost 1 year old son Beckett, currently live in Liberty, MO with their 3 yippy dogs.
I started at UMKC on 6-20-05 in a department that no longer exists, Networking & Telecommunications. I was delighted to join UMKC after 13 years at KCTV5. I hope my Staff Council position will provide me the opportunity to meet more people from around the campus. I’d like to help bridge any understanding gap there might be between administration and the rank & file employees. I lead the Volker Campus walking group that meets twice weekly for group walks and I’d love to help anyone who wants to improve his/her health and fitness.
I was born and raised in the Kansas City area, so working for Kansas City’s University is such an honor. I started with the University in 2014 and it has been a great experience thus far. So I am overjoyed to serve as the Vice Chair of Staff Council and I hope to do the best I can in this role.

I am in my second year serving on Staff Council, and I truly love it! While I’m not busy with work or library school, you’ll probably find me either watching Netflix or playing Candy Crush. My favorite quote comes from Doctor Who: ‘You want weapons? We’re in a library. Books are the best weapon in the world. This room’s the greatest arsenal we could have. Arm yourself!’
Originally from the Washington DC area, I moved to Kansas City nearly 25 years ago and never looked back. I love the pace of life here.
