Nina Kuklenko

Nina Kuklenko, Dental Instrument Assistant for the School of Dentistry, is this month’s Hive Five winner.

KuklenkoNina has worked at the School of Dentistry for three years in the department led by Mary Jane Bruning; however, she has been with the university for 13 years working 10 years in Facilities Management before a significant budget crises left her and more than ten employees from her department unemployed. Nina was grateful to find another position within the UMKC family when she was hired by Mary Jane at the School of Dentistry.

Nina is originally from the Ukraine, so by the time she settled in Kansas City now more than 20 years ago, she was already a world traveler.

She enjoys vacation spots that are warm and sunny providing the chance to rest and swim. She likes to visit Mexico and the Dominican Republic when she travels.

In her free time, Nina enjoys swimming and other exercises at the gym. She also enjoys shopping, which is a hobby her husband doesn’t like, she said jokingly. She likes to shop for clothes and ingredients for her favorite Russian recipes. Nina learned to make Borsch – a Russian vegetable stew from her mother who learned to make it from her mother, and it is still a favorite dish that she also passed to her own daughter.

Nina enjoys providing great customer service to the students at the SOD. She said the best thing about her position is getting to know all the great dental students.

Congratulations, again to Nina Kuklenko January’s Staff Council High Five winner!
