Congratulations Class of 2012

142 SCE undergraduate, masters and doctoral students graduated May 4, 2012 from the UMKC School of Computing and Engineering (SCE). Don Curtis, P.E., Department Manager for HDR Engineering, an architectural, engineering and consulting firm that excels at complex projects and solving challenges for clients, was the keynote speaker. A West Point nuclear engineering graduate, Mr. Curtis now manages HDR’s Kansas City office and oversees HDR Engineering’s activities in the states of Missouri and Kansas.

He spoke on how his technical education has helped him in his career and future challenges for graduates. Lastly he provided some good professional advice which included these tips for graduates: 1) when you are newly hired, find a buddy to help you learn the ropes in your organization and 2) after some time, identify a mentor – perhaps someone you want to emulate professionally. Graduates were also welcomed into our UMKC SCE Alumni Association by 2012 SCE Alumni Board President Kerry Kanatzar. Our Spring 2012 commencement was preceded by the Dean’s breakfast reception for graduates and their families and friends. SCE faculty and staff congratulate our graduates on their achievements!
