This live six week course is taught by an expert faculty of licensed professors and working engineers.  Within the technical class sessions, you will have the opportunity to take advantage of four in-depth studies in the areas of Structures, Transportation engineering, Geotechnical engineering, and Water Resources and Environmental.

This course is specially designed to help you prepare by segmenting the exam into digestible components and delivering the key points likely to be covered in the exam.  You will also work through sample problems and have the opportunity to participate in group discussion.

Our course provides structure and support for your exam preparation.  During the first session, recently licensed PEs will lead a discussion group on exam day basics and what to expect – helping you to focus on the key tips and methods for completing the exam successfully.  You will have the opportunity to take a sample morning exam, which will help to prepare you for the exam format, question types and testing environment.  While this is a review course, it is no guarantee of successfully completing the PE exam.

Who Should Attend? Engineers who are planning to take the Civil Engineering PE Exam in October 2013 or April 2014.  Professional engineers may find this course useful for updating skills in areas outside their normal practice with the benefit of earning PDHs for re-licensure.  By taking this course, a PE can earn three PDHs for each technical session attended.  Those who attend all 12 technical sessions can earn up to 36 PDHs—enough for more than two years’ requirements at only $22/PDH!

Testimonials UMKC’s School of Computing and Engineering is proud to support licensure candidates’ preparation since 2009.  See what past years’ class participants say about UMKC’s Civil PE Review Course:

Licensure is the symbol of a professional.  Today, no matter what career path a professional engineer chooses, a successful, ongoing career virtually requires PE licensure and this refresher course is intended to assist those planning to take the Electrical and Computer-Power PE Exam in their studies.

This live course – two evenings per week – is taught by an expert licensed faculty member with over forty years of experience in all facets of power engineering.  This course is specially designed to help you prepare for the exam by segmenting the exam into digestible components and delivering the most probable question areas as published by the people who develop these exams.  The topics covered include:

  • Mathematics
  • Basic Theory and DC Circuits
  • Field Theory and AC Circuits
  • Circuit Theory
  • Electromagnetic Devices
  • System Analysis
  • Measurement and Instrumentation
  • Generation
  • Distribution
  • Electrical Analysis
  • Transmission
  • System Protection and Safety
  • Rotating Machinery
  • Power Electronics
  • Power System Performance
  • Special Applications
  • Electrical materials
  • Codes and Standards

Attend all the sessions – or just those that you need.  The focus of the course is problem solving in the actual exam format with typical questions which you answer and then see a step by step solution the following week with handouts for further individual study or comparison.  There are no lectures, only problem presentation, discussion and solutions.  The refresher reinforces the methodology for problem solving, and provides structure for your preparation.  While this is a review course, it is no guarantee of successfully passing the PE exam.

Instructor:

Mike Kelly, PE Instructor, UMKC School of Computing & Engineering

Mr. Kelly retired as Black & Veatch’s Head – Power System Study Group in 2005 and has been teaching power engineering on a full time basis ever since.  Mr. Kelly is currently a faculty member of UMKC’s School of Computing & Engineering and is developing a Power Lab for the reemergence of power engineering primarily due to the recent developments in power electronics.

Mr. Kelly has a BSEE from UMR and is a member of MSPE, NSPE, PEPP and a senior member of IEEE.

Who Should Attend? Engineers who are planning to take the Power PE Exam in October, 2013 or April, 2014.  Licensed, professional engineers may find this course useful for updating skills in areas outside their normal practice with the benefit of earning PDHs for re-licensure.  By taking this course, a PE earns three PDHs for each technical session attended.

Vision for The Post-Construction Stormwater BMP Institute

The Post-Construction Stormwater BMP Institute is the newly created home for practitioners in this industry to gather – both in the classroom and over the Internet – and share ideas and experiences about the application of BMPs in the mid-continent region of the United States. The Institute is an initiative of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Computing and Engineering along with leading practitioners in the fields of stormwater management and stormwater treatment. These programs are not designed for those with limited experience in this market. Rather, the content of these programs is geared toward practitioners experienced with stormwater BMPs.

This Session 1 is the first of two sessions in the cornerstone series. Session 2 will have a more specialized focus, with programs in:

  • Design and Construction
  • Inspection and Maintenance

At the end of Session 2, attendees will have the option of taking an exam covering the material contained in the first two cornerstone programs. Those who receive a grade of 80% or above will receive a certificate in their area of specialization.

A third session – this one two-days in length – is also under discussion. This Session 3 will further segment the training into the following areas of specialization:

  • Design
  • Construction
  • Inspection
  • Maintenance
