Henrietta Rix Wood has been named Coordinator of Writing Assessment, a dual appointment position with her promotion to Assistant Teaching Professor of English. She will be working closelywith Assistant Vice Provost for Assessment Nathan Lindsay to design and implement the RooWriter writing assessment that will be introduced in August 2013 and will replace the Written English Proficiency Test (WEPT).
Wood currently teaches writing, literature, and women’s and gender studies at UMKC. She earned her Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in English and History at UMKC in 2011 and has been a full-time lecturer for the English Department for two years. She won the 2012 Rhetoric Society of America Dissertation Award for her study of the rhetorical activities of young women in the Kansas City area during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Her work has also been featured in Rhetoric Review and American Periodicals.
