UMKC Showcases Student Artists

Weeklong exhibit opens Thursday, April 24

A selection of works by 32 graduate and undergraduate artists are featured in a one-week juried show taking place from April 24 to May 1 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in the UMKC Gallery of Art, Room 203 in the Fine Arts Building.

Guest juror for the 2014 Student Art Exhibition is Erin Dziedzic, curator and head of adult programs at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Dziedzic will judge works in a variety of media.

She holds BFA and MA degrees in art history, and earlier curated the Savannah College of Art and Design’s museum of art before coming to the Kemper in 2013. She is also founder of artcore journal, an online biannual contemporary art journal she began in 2011.

Scholarship winners will be announced at an opening night party in the Gallery of Art from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday April 24. Free parking for this event is available on the 5th floor of the Cherry Street Parking Garage, accessible from Cherry Street, Oak Street or 50th Street.

Directions and hours of operation can be found by visiting the Gallery’s web page, by phone at (816) 235-1502 for a recorded message of current exhibits, or by email: umkcgallery@umkc.edu.

The reception and exhibition are free.
