Kansas City, Mo. – The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Law will introduce S. Rafe Foreman as a Douglas Stripp Dean’s Distinguished Professor of Law and Director of Advocacy from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the UMKC School of Law Student Lounge, 500 E. 52nd St., Kansas City, Mo. Foreman joined UMKC after a distinguished career as a trial lawyer, most recently as a partner at Foreman, Lewis & Hutchison P.C. in Grapevine, Texas. He served as a litigation specialist, handling cases involving criminal defense, plaintiff’s personal injury, civil rights, employment, discrimination, wrongful death, excessive force and Section 1983, which is the primary means of enforcing constitutional rights.
At the UMKC School of Law, Foreman teaches Trial Advocacy and Evidence and coaches the Trial Advocacy teams. He is also working to bring the School of Law’s advocacy program to national prominence.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, Foreman received his J.D. from the Texas Tech University School of Law, where he was on the Moot Court championship team, regional co-chair of the Client Counseling Competition and a member of the Board of Barristers. He has advanced education in psychology and is a graduate of the Trial Lawyers College, where he now serves as an instructor and board member. Foreman is board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
The Douglas Stripp Dean’s Distinguished Professorship was created and funded by Bebe and R. Crosby Kemper through the R. Crosby Kemper Charitable Trust and Foundation. It is named for Bebe Kemper’s father, a lifelong Kansas City resident and internationally known trial lawyer, who practiced law in Kansas City for more than half a century until his death in 1983.
