UMKC Partners with Sporting KC

August will be “Rally with the Roos” month

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-Kansas City has partnered with Sporting Kansas City, making UMKC Sporting KC’s only university partner. The collaboration will deliver a season filled with excitement, giveaways, contests, and a “UMKC Night at Sporting Park.”

“In the coming months, people will have a unique opportunity to celebrate Kansas City’s university and its Major League Soccer team. This partnership pairs two organizations that are achieving goals and gaining fans, and that’s something to cheer about,” Leo Morton, UMKC chancellor, said.

This August, fans will participate in “Rally with the Roos,” a month-long contest. Ultimately, ten entrants will be randomly selected to win a “Rally with the Roos” package, which will include two tickets to a Sporting KC home game and an autographed Sporting KC soccer ball.  The contest will be hosted on the Sporting KC website, and begins August 1.

The university will also take some of the spotlight on the final regular season game at Sporting Park. The October 18 game will be dubbed “UMKC Night at Sporting Park.” Fans will be treated to more than 10,000 giveaway items, courtesy of UMKC.

“We are thrilled about our partnership with UMKC.  Through this relationship, the entire UMKC community can enjoy a memorable, world-class soccer experience here at Sporting Park,” Jamie Guin, Sporting KC’s vice president of corporate partnerships, said.

The partnership is a natural fit for both organizations. Sporting KC has proven to be a valued, positive force for Kansas City, just as UMKC has for 80 years. Moreover, Sporting Park is regularly filled with UMKC alumni, current and prospective students. There is a large overlap between UMKC and Sporting KC fans, specifically with UMKC’s alumni base and athletic department.

“Sporting KC games draw a young, diverse, family-oriented audience, and that’s exactly where we’d like to boost our visibility. This pairing brings together a university on the rise with a team on the rise,” Anne Hartung Spenner, UMKC’s vice chancellor for strategic marketing and communications, said.
