Statement by the Faculty Senate Executive Committee

We share the horror and sadness

The UMKC community of faculty, led by the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate, share the horror and sadness of the victims tragically killed and injured by a senseless act of violence in Olathe.  This is the opposite of the kind of reasoned and civilized discourse and behavior we, as members of the UMKC community, expect of our fellow humans. We join our hearts and prayers to the victims and their families, friends, and colleagues.

UMKC is devoted to the principles of inclusion, equity, diversity, and tolerance. We take this charge seriously. We will not be deterred from engaging, educating, and instructing those around us that hatred is counterproductive and that violence is not the answer to disagreement or controversy.

We of the UMKC Faculty Senate Executive Committee encourage all to reach out to their colleagues, friends, and families and challenge these forces of irrational hatred. We stand firm and will not be deterred.
