The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry was noted in the Top 5 for the quality and quantity of its dental educational research in 2014, according to the industry’s leading academic journal.
“This accomplishment of our faculty and staff speaks to their dedicated efforts in creating scholarly works that are important contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning and educational innovation,” said Marsha Pyle, dean of the UMKC School of Dentistry. “Our research programs bridge basic biomedical, clinical and educational research topics that bring impactful new knowledge to our profession and to patient care.”
The Journal of Dental Education, the publication for the American Dental Education Association and the voice for dental education, accepted four articles by UMKC dental faculty last year, the fourth highest of any dental school in the U.S. and Canada.
Additionally, Nadeem Karimbux, editor of the journal, selected the top 12 articles of the year and one was co-written by UMKC faculty Christopher Van Ness, assistant research professor of restorative clinical sciences; Nancy Keselyak, associate professor of dental hygiene; and John Killip, adjunct professor of restorative clinical services. Their article, co-written by Sharon K. Lanning, Michelle McGregor and Geralyn Crain, was “The Status of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Dental Education.”
