Where is UMKC taking you?

UMKC is taking me to my dream job, though I’m not sure what that is. I am very open to job options in my future. I would like to live in Kansas City after graduation, and as long as I have a job that makes me happy — and hopefully my own family — I will be perfectly content.

Why did you choose UMKC?

My high school counselor in Papillion, Nebraska, is a fan of UMKC and suggested I check it out. I visited campus and knew I had found my school. Three people from my high school class chose UMKC.

How has college inspired you?

It has inspired me to be a more outgoing person. It has made me realize that I am at an important stage in my life where I need to be taking advantage of as many opportunities as possible. Life’s too short to hold back. Going to UMKC has blessed me with many opportunities so far, and I am incredibly grateful. I have learned that I can handle a lot on my plate at once. I would consider myself a very busy person, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

What do you admire most about UMKC and why?

I admire the close relationships that UMKC has with companies in Kansas City. As part of the School of Computing and Engineering, I am thankful that I am located in the heart of the fourth-largest engineering hub in the United States. UMKC has done a great job of helping prepare students for their future careers. I have a feeling that I won’t have many problems getting a job right after graduation.

What is one word that best describes you and why?

Ambitious. I set really high standards for myself and always strive to achieve them. I know that I am capable of whatever I set my mind to.

What are your lifelong goals?

I’m open to whatever happens. I want to study abroad in Ireland or travel in Europe. I also got a piano for Christmas and want to learn how to play it.

Do you belong to any organizations?

I’ve been a campus ambassador, and worked in the Welcome Center. I think highly of UMKC, and I like to tell my story and spread the word.
