Uncovering The Story Of Civil Rights Activist Bayard Rustin

KC Repertory Theatre’s current production, Blueprints to Freedom: An Ode to Bayard Rustin, is playing now on the Copaken Stage through Nov. 15. The play is about Bayard Rustin who stood alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. in the fight for civil rights. But his name remains largely unknown.

Steve Kraske with KCUR’s “Up to Date” recently talked with Michael Benjamin Washington, the playwright of Blueprints to Freedom: An Ode to Bayard Rustin. He also portrays Rustin. D. Rashaan Gilmore who currently manages “Project I Am,” a groundbreaking HIV/AIDS awareness and stigma reduction program for the Kansas City Care Clinic, was also a guest on the show. Read more…
