The Rep’s “A Christmas Story, The Musical!” Nominated for Three Tony Awards
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A 20-foot-tall Neil Patrick Harris? In Kansas City? It happens June 9.
The popular host – and the rest of the show – will be projected onto the big screen on the Spencer Theatre stage at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s live broadcast of the Tony Awards. Guests are invited to gather to cheer on “A Christmas Story, The Musical!,” which had its world premiere at the Rep in 2009, and is now nominated for three Tony Awards.
The watch party will take place 6:30 p.m., Sunday, June 9, in UMKC’s Olson Performing Arts Center, 4949 Cherry St, Kansas City, Mo.
The free event will feature a cash bar, prizes, Tony trivia, and surprise special guests. “A Christmas Story, The Musical!” is nominated for three Tonys, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
The Rep’s 2009 world premiere of the holiday show became the highest-grossing show in the theatre’s history. Since then, the show has received a 2010 staging at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre; a 2011 five-city holiday tour; and its premiere on Broadway during the 2012 holiday season, where it was one of Broadway’s highest-grossing holiday shows ever.
