Week of activities runs Feb. 15-22

This year’s “Rolling Out the Red Carpet” theme will give students a week filled with Hollywood-themed activities.   The Student-led Court Warming Planning Committee has designed activities for UMKC students. In addition to the week of events, eight students will be campaigning for the title of royalty.  The two students selected for Roo Court represent the student body at summer orientation and serve as committee members for Court Warming 2015.

What: Women’s basketball v. Texas Pan-American. Court Warming candidates will participate in a halftime activity to kick off the week of Court Warming.
When: 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15.
Where: Swinney Recreation Center, 5030 Holmes St, Kansas City, Mo.

What: Game Night. From board games to video games, play away!
When: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16.
Where: Student Union, Jazzman’s Café, 5100 Cherry St, Kansas City, Mo.

What: Yell Like Hell Competition. Competing teams will create a five-minute song/dance/skit based around the Court Warming theme. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
When: 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Where: Student Union Theatre, 5100 Cherry St, Kansas City, Mo.

What: Trivia Night. Students will test their Court Warming, UMKC, Kansas City, and Hollywood knowledge at Trivia Night.
When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Where: Atterbury Student Success Center Pierson Auditorium, 5000 Holmes St., Kansas City, Mo.

What: UMKC Men’s basketball v. Bakersfield. UMKC Court Candidates will be judged by crowd applause on their best Hollywood costume and dance moves.
When: 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20.
Where: Municipal Auditorium 301 W. 13 St., Kansas City, Mo.

What: Service Event and Ice Skating. Students will have the opportunity to participate in our monthly Service Friday Event at Union Station. Followed by ice skating at Crown Center to celebrate 2014 Court Warming. This event is free to all students and ice skates will be provided.
When: 2:10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21.
Location: Students will meet at the Student Union, then travel to Union Station, to be followed by Ice Skating at Crown Center.

What: UMKC Men’s basketball vs. Utah Valley. Come support the men’s basketball team and watch the crowing of Court Warming royalty!
When: 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22.
Where: Municipal Auditorium 301 W. 13 St., Kansas City, Mo.

About Court Warming:
Court Warming has been adapted over the years to the week of events it is today.  In 1955, an annual Homecoming banquet and dance honored university alumni.  In the mid 1970’s, Homecoming ceased and it was not until 1996 that the new name, Court Warming, encompassed a week full of events for students and a celebration of the UMKC basketball teams.  The Court Warming tradition continues to focus on building student engagement.
