Volker campus party offers food, fun and sun

The weather was perfect, the food delicious, and the lines…well, some things can’t be helped. But it was all worth the wait.

Promptly at 11:30 a.m., the serving tables opened and UMKC employees on the Volker campus queued up for the Chancellor’s Welcome Back Lunch. The Hospital Hill campus enjoyed their picnic the day before.

Host Leo E. Morton doled out cookies, smiles and conversation, joined in his efforts by his administrative team and the Sodexo crew. Diners had a choice of hot dogs, burgers and veggie patties. Chips and drinks rounded out the offerings. The other choice was for seating. A stone wall in the shade drew part of the crowd, while others braved the noonday sun and chose tables on the patio.

Employees/students Gloria and Breann didn’t mind the slow progress toward the food tables; instead they focused on the beautiful day and their favorite classes. Keivan and Mike discussed the many changes taking place at the Miller Nichols Library; and Kim talked about acquiring survey results for a graduate project. But there were no complaints. Everyone liked the break in their routine, being together and relaxing.

And no one was in a hurry to get back to their offices. The universal opinion? – “It’s just so nice!”
