Culture of Peace Exhibit at Library

Opening reception Oct. 14

“Building a Culture of Peace for the Children of the World,” a traveling art exhibit focused on children’s rights, will be on display at the Miller Nichols Library Oct. 14 through Nov. 15.

The exhibit is sponsored by Global and Multicultural Education (G.A.M.E.) and Soka Gakkai International (SGI-USA). The exhibit consists of 30 large educational panels combining pictures and cultural dialogue of many individuals and organizations. The exhibit focuses on the United Nations definition of “Culture of Peace” as a set of “values, attitudes, modes of behavior and ways of life that rejects violence.” It inspires peaceful resolution and maintains that the culture of peace consists of interlocking pieces, in which each individual plays a part.

An opening reception is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 14 in Room 303 of the library. The program will include a performance by Heartsong, a small ensemble of the Kansas City Women’s Chorus; and remarks by community members including Dr. Stephen Green, superintendent of the Kansas City, Missouri School District.
