Each week, the University of Missouri-Kansas City offers an array of on-campus activities. It’s nothing new. UMKC has a long legacy of hosting countless culturally enriching events. These activities are part of what give UMKC a vibrant campus life, and make UMKC an arts and culture powerhouse. The influence of UMKC-based and UMKC-trained alumni extends well beyond the campus’ edge, so their activities are listed here as well.

What: The Rocky Horror Show by Richard O’Brien
“The Rocky Horror Show,” a production of UMKC Theatre, is a humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s through to the early 1970s. The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist unveiling his new creation, a muscle man named Rocky Horror.

What: Hand Print Press National Print Exhibition
The UMKC Department of Art & Art History presents the UMKC Hand Print Press National Print Exhibition, featuring the work of 29 printmakers from across the United States. Exhibited works were selected by juror Dr. Sandra Olsen, who serves as director of the University of Buffalo Art Galleries. The exhibition is sponsored by UMKC Hand Print Press.

Co-production of UMKC Theatre with Coterie Theatre of a play by Kate DiCamillo, directed by David Saar.

What: Visiting Designer Lecture: Kathryn Lorenzen and Rebecca Schwartz
Kathryn Lorenzen has recruited, screened and placed hundreds of people in jobs, coached hundreds more in their job searches and made dozens of presentations on career development. She’s spent the last 16 years at LandaJob Marketing & Creative Talent. Rebecca Schwartz has been the temporary and creative recruiter at LandaJob since 2011. Prior to that, she worked as a web content manager for a small business, a direct marketing services team supervisor and a project manager for a pharma-based advertising agency.

What: Mid-America Medieval Association Conference
A series of papers on medieval topics, including the conference theme of “Collectivity & Exchange,” will be delivered at the 39th annual meeting of the Mid-America Medieval Association. Collectivity might be imagined expansively to include not just temporal but also ephemeral and spiritual communities. Exchange might also be considered in various forms, from economic and material to ideological and philosophical. Dr. Theresa Coletti, the University of Maryland, will give the keynote address on Feb. 28 at 1:15 p.m.

What: Angels in America
Angels in America is written by Tony Kushner and directed by David Cromer. The Kansas City Repertory Theatre production is a world-class revival of a modern classic. The most honored play in a generation, winner of the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Angels in America melds love, hate, religion and politics into a uniquely American epic. Sensitively reimagined, Angels in America changed the landscape of American theatre. This production is appropriate for ages 17 and up. It contains adult language, sexual content and nudity.

What: The New Theatre Restaurant presents, “Forever Plaid,”
This internationally acclaimed musical revue tells the story of four young, eager, male singers who in 1950 meet their demise in a bus crash on the way to their first big concert. Every evening they return from Heaven to posthumously fulfill their dreams, to perform the concert that never was.

UMKC Connection: Co-owners Dennis Hennessy and Richard Carrothers are both UMKC graduates and both were presented with honorary doctorates by the UMKC College of Arts and Sciences in 2012.
