CASE VI Awards

Marketing and Communications division medals

It is the equivalent of the Olympics for academic publications. When District VI of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) had its annual meeting in Chicago last December, UMKC’s Strategic Marketing and Communications division – MCOM – brought home the goods.

MCOM claimed a total of 12 awards, including six coveted Gold Medals. Two were won for advertising campaigns: the “Border Schmorder” campaign promoting in-state tuition for Kansas residents; and the other the “Catch up, stay on track or get ahead” campaign for the 2012 Summer Session. Also winning gold were the 2012 Homecoming Tabloid and the Conservatory Academy catalog. The final two Golds were for the 2012 Viewbook  and other recruiting materials designed for the International Student Affairs office.

Two magazines each landed a Silver medal:  the UMKC Law School 2012 Alumni Magazine and the Spring 2012 issue of Perspectives, UMKC’s magazine for alumni and friends.  The 2011 annual report from the School of Medicine and the Chancellor’s website also earned Silver. In the category of general news writing, another Silver medal went to the article “Reading Women in Tehran.”

An ad touting UMKC’s designation by the Princeton Review as the only “best value” college in the area won a Bronze.

Other departments and schools shared in the bounty. A Gold award went to the School of Pharmacy’s Postscript, their annual report; and a Bronze went to the Office of Advancement’s electronic alumni magazine, e-Roos.
