International students can study anything from anthropology to floral management at a U.S. university, but many are drawn to engineering. It’s the second most popular field of study, right after business and management, for undergrad and graduate students from abroad, according to a 2013 report from the Institute of International Education.
At some graduate engineering schools, international students are the majority of the student body. At the University of Missouri—Kansas City, for example, 95.9 percent of full-time engineering students in fall 2013 were not from the U.S. It had the highest percentage of international students among 192 ranked institutions that submitted data to U.S. News.
