In a surprise announcement, Dean Ellen Suni was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and admitted into the Solo and Small Firm Hall of Fame at the Missouri Bar Solo and Small Firm Conference, June 9-11.
Dan Haltenhof, chair of the Missouri Bar Solo and Small Firm Committee, said Suni was being recognized not only for her work on the conference committee but her demonstrated dedication to “giving new lawyers the foundation they need to develop their own firm.” Haltenhof highlighted UMKC’s entrepreneurial lawyering class, which was previously unheard of as part of law school curriculum as well as Suni’s work in developing the Solo and Small Firm Incubator.
Thanks to generous donations, 21 students had the opportunity to participate in the conference. They attended workshops and networked alongside hundreds of attorneys. This combination of classroom and hands-on learning, coupled with mentoring, provided students a learning experience that cannot be matched.
