2014 CITS Competition

Congratulations to 2014 CITS Competition winner William Canady for his piece “Scenes from Kansas City,” for string quartet!!!!

Alternates: “Face the Flames” by Andrew Linson and “Re-Imaged World” by Christina Strassle.  Congratulations!

One of the highlights of CITS is the annual Composition Competition, to which CITS students are encouraged to submit their original works.

The 2014 competition will be for string quartet (2 violins, viola, cello).  The winning piece will be performed by the UMKC Graduate Fellowship Quartet at the annual Conservatory in the Schools Concert.  Any students participating in Composers in the Schools or Musical Bridges are elegible to enter! The deadline for entries is April 7, 2014.  Please be sure to read the competition guidelines carefully before composing/submitting any works.  Entry forms can be printed HERE or are available from your CITS teacher.

Winners receive certificates for their work and their music will be professionally performed and/or recorded by UMKC Conservatory performers. They are also nominated for a full tuition scholarship to the UMKC Summer Composition Workshop. The Summer Composition Workshop (June 14–20) for ages 14 and up is an intensive weeklong musical experience that helps young composers hone their craft and find their creative voices. Composers will participate in a mix of classes and small group sessions with UMKC Conservatory faculty.
