Residential Life Staff Positions

Residential Life Coordinator

The full-time, live-in Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) manages the administrative components of a hall or apartment complex. In addition to supervising student staff, they are responsible for programming implementation, crisis management, and adjudication for policy violations. Any openings for this bachelor’s-required, master’s-preferred position will be posted through UMKC’s HR website.

Assistant Residential Life Coordinator (building-specific)

The part-time, live-in Assistant Residential Life Coordinator (ARLC) assists the RLC in the day-to-day functions of the facility. Specific to this position is the advisement of the Residence Hall Council and the management of summer camps and conferences. Any openings for this position will be posted through the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management website, and preference is given to students in the Higher Education Administration master’s program.

Assistant Residential Life Coordinator (department-specific)

The part-time, live-in Assistant Residential Life Coordinator (ARLC) assists the Associate Director in the day-to-day functions of the department. The ARLC will manage the social media accounts for Residential Life and implement department-wide programming initiatives. Any openings for this position will be posted through the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management website, and preference is given to students in the Higher Education Administration master’s program.

Resident Assistant

The Resident Assistant (RA) is a live-in student staff member who has administrative and programming responsibility for a wing or building section of students. After an extensive training process, the RAs are expected to handle issues pertaining to crisis management, confrontation, mediation and general student well-being. Academic Assistant

The Academic Assistant (AA) is a live-in paraprofessional who has administrative and programming responsibility for the Honors Living Learning Community (LLC). The Academic Assistant reports directly to the Residential Life Coordinator, but has responsibilities for working with the Assistant Residential Life Coordinator and Departmental Liaison for specific parts of their position (LLC programming, educational and wellness functions, and other activities). The expected average time commitment for the position is 20 hours per week. Please see the position description for more information.

Desk Manager

The Desk Manager (DM) is a student staff position within Oak Street Hall and Johnson Hall. The DM hires, trains and supervises desk assistants and is responsible for the overall management of the front desk. The DM reports directly to the Residential Life Coordinator of the building; however, the DM also has responsibilities for working with the Assistant Residential Life Coordinator. Office Assistant

The Office Assistant (OA) position is a student staff position within Oak Street Hall and Oak Place Apartments. The OA resolves the needs of any faculty/staff/student/guest using knowledge of campus resources, aids in clerical work and completes other duties as assigned. Desk Attendant

The Desk Attendant (DA) is responsible for the administration of information from the front desk of the residential halls and apartments. The DA provides assistance by answering questions, checking out equipment, and performing mail service among other assigned tasks.
