The Honors Colloquium is an integral component of the UMKC Honors Program. The Honors Colloquium allows students the opportunity to examine current issues impacting the world today from an interdisciplinary perspective. Each semester students from the Honors Student Advisory Committee (HSAC) choose a topic to discuss and invite UMKC faculty and outside guests to present their research and experiences. Students also participate in related group activities throughout the semester, along with writing about and discussing the material. In honor of the presidential election and other important elections, the theme for fall 2012 was politics. The theme for spring 2013 semester is “Making Our Generation Matter.” A wide range of topics will be covered, including global health issues, environmental ethics, and future technology. The Honors Colloquium is mandatory and students are expected to actively participate.
