Description: Social media have been steadily rising since SixDegrees inception in 1997. With the environment saturated with companies trying to make a niche market, the task for educators is to take a close look at social media and how its been used both in everyday life and in the classroom. Social media allows instructors to engage with students in ways that allow a deeper, more personal connection that fosters trust and overall student achievement. If students perceive that you care about them or that you are trying to engage with them using their communication tools, then they are more likely to engage in course material and learn. This workshop is designed to introduce you to a variety of social media tools, the media theories behind motivation and engagement, and ways you can implement social media in your own courses. This course is limited to 18 participants.
