Greetings – Over the Christmas Intersession, the UMKC Data Warehouse made several changes to the location and structure of the Student Administration reports available within Cognos. Today, we were able to make available these changes to you, the report consumer. Many of the changes we made we hope will improve your experience within Cognos, and are things that you shouldn’t see directly; however, I wanted to share with you some of the changes that directly impact you. If you wish to have a full list of the changes we made, please feel free to contact me and I can go over them with you.
1) Report Locations – As you may have noticed, we have reorganized the locations of the reports within Cognos. Our old way of cataloging reports was getting to be cumbersome and ill-managed, so we have changed to follow the structure of the university in terms of report locations. Each School and Department now have their own folder, and are appropriately nested which will allow for easier access and cataloging of reports. Please note: although the location of reports have changed, we have not removed or changed any security attached to them. The reports you were previously able to access, you should still be able to access.
2) NEW! Portal Tabs – Over the last year, several of you have made comment about the need to always having to navigate to the folder UMKC_PK_RPT_SA in Cognos in order to access reports, and how cumbersome it was to do so. After a little research and some digging around, we are pleased to offer you a new method of getting to reports. It is now possible to add portal tabs to your connection in Cognos and set this portal tab as your homepage in Cognos, so every time you login, you are already there ready to choose the report you want. The attached .pdf file shows how to add a new portal tab and setting this portal tab as your home page.
We hope that these changes will be helpful to you. If at any time you have questions or problems in accessing or running a report inside of Cognos, please feel free to contact a member of the Data Warehouse Team and we will be glad to assist you.
