Junyi Nie


About

Chinese pianist, Junyi Nie, started studying piano with her mother at age four. She is currently a candidate for a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Missouri, Kansas City studying with Alon Goldstein as a scholarship and doctoral teaching fellowship recipient. This upcoming season, Junyi Nie will perform with the UMKC Conservatory Orchestra in White Recital Hall in March 2022 as the winner of the 2021 Concerto/Aria competition.

During the 2021-22 season, Junyi Nie was invited to perform in the Abbey Bach Festival in Oregon, Emerald Coast Music Alliance in Florida, 2021 Chinese Lunar New Year Gala organized by Kansas City Chinses American Association, and hold a solo recital at the Chapel Garden Spot Village, Pennsylvania. Junyi Nie also performed at White Recital Hall in Kansas City at the several concert series presented by the studio of Alon Goldstein, including in Beethoven Complete Piano Sonatas, Ravel Reimagined, and Mozart Piano Concertos Celebration. In 2021 August, Junyi Nie was invited to give a piano pedagogy lecture at the 2021 Conero International Music Festival in Kansas.

Other recent highlights include performing in the 2019 Mozart International Music Festival in Salzburg, 2017 and 2020 International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York City, Debussy Centennial concert in Boston. Junyi Nie won the first prize as a piano duo in the Sixth Asian Music Competition in Hong Kong and the second prize in 2015 Helen Taylor Johannesen International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City.

A passionate advocate for music education, Junyi Nie was an instructor at Boston University, where she taught group piano and aural skills. Currently, Junyi Nie teaches group piano and applied piano lessons at UMKC Conservatory and is a faculty member at UMKC Conservatory Academy.

Junyi Nie holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Wuhan Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music Degree from Boston University.
