Dr. Seungwon Lee, soprano, earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, her Artist Diploma from Manhattan School of Music in New York City, her Master of Music from the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University in Chicago, and her Bachelor of Music from Pusan National University in South Korea.

Dr. Lee has extensively performed in concert, opera, and recital within the classical and contemporary styles in Chicago, New York City, Kansas City, and South Korea. She has performed opera roles including Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze Figaro, and Adele in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and opera scenes in Carmen, Così fan tutte, La Bohème and Die Zauberflöte. Besides opera roles, she has appeared as a soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Theodore Dubois’s The Seven Last Words of Christ, and Sydney Peters’ The Atonement. In addition to operas and oratorios, she has given numerous solo recitals in Chicago and Kansas City.

Dr. Lee was a participant in Master Classes with the world-renowned artists such as Mr. Martin Katz and Metropolitan Opera leading mezzo-soprano Mignon Dunn in New York City. Dr. Lee was on the Young Artist program with Chicago Opera Theatre, where she appeared as a guest artist on the Chicago North Shore Choral Society Festival and Chicago Opera Theatre gala concerts. Dr. Lee was one of the winners of Bel Canto Competition in Chicago division and appeared on the winner’s concert with Maude Miller Encouragement Award.

Prior to serving on the voice faculty of the Conservatory Academy at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Dr. Lee has served as adjunct professor of voice of Dong-Eui University School of Music in Pusan, South Korea, where she was the recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Lee has a private voice studio based in Kansas City, and also teaches piano to beginners and intermediate levels. She is a choir director at a local church.
