Mi Qian


About

Mi Qian, a violinist who was born in Wenzhou, China, is a doctoral candidate in music performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she studies with Benny Kim. She receives a concertmaster fellowship from her school. Upbringing in China and having Asian and American educational system experiences, she expects to be a professor in university. Mi is committed to helping students develop a strong foundation in violin performance and appreciate the magic of music by fusing traditional Chinese music education methods with western music education systems.

Mi began her musical journey at the age of five and graduated from Wuhan Conservatory’s elementary school, middle school. She holds a bachelor degree from Wuhan Conservatory studying violin with Song Peng, where she won the third prize in the Hong Kong International Violin Competition in 2012, the gold prize in the Wuhan Yangzi River instrument competition in 2013, and the third prize in the Wuhan QingYang violin competition the same year. Mi participated in numerous performances with the Wuhan Eastern Philharmonic and she is the first violin in the string quartet “JiuGe.” Mi earned a President’s Scholarship to complete her Master of Music degree in music performance at Mannes School of Music, where she studied violin with Michelle Kim. In the New York Artist International Competition 2021, she took home the second place trophy.
