Matteo Generani


About

Matteo Generani is an Italian pianist who began studying piano at the age of 10. He got his Bachelor of Music from the conservatory High Institute of Musical Studies (I. S. S. M.) Franco Vittadini of Pavia, in Italy, under the guidance of Silvia Belfiore. In 2017 he moved to the US and in 2019 he got his Master’s Degree in piano performance at Central Michigan University (CMU) studying with Alexandra Mascolo-David.

Matteo Generani attended masterclasses with many pianists such as Peter Ovtcharov, Robert Weirich, Fabio Luz, Orion Weiss, Wu Han, Tamás Ungár, Peter Takács, Asaf Zohar and Emilia Fadini. Also, he attended several festivals, such as the Summer Academy of the Accademia del Ridotto, in Stradella (Italy), the Festival Up-To-Penice, in Siziano (Italy), the Festival del Paradiso, in Turin (Italy), the Festival del Golfo, in San Marco di Castellabate (Italy).

He received the Honorable Mention in the Concerto/Aria Competition at CMU, he won the first prize in the Solo piano competition “Villa Oliva” in 2018 in Italy, the first prize in the White Lake Young Artist Solo Performance in 2019 in Michigan, he won the 2020 Concerto/Aria Competition at UMKC, won the first prize at the 2020 Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and he obtained graduate assistantships and scholarships for both his Master and his Doctoral degrees.

As a performer, he played concerts as soloist, in chamber music ensembles, in orchestras, and with different choirs in several venues in Europe and the US with a vast repertoire spanning from ancient to contemporary composers. In May 2020 he recorded the complete Etudes Book Op. 23 by the contemporary Italian composer Giovanni Albini.

In conjunction with performing, Matteo Generani is also passionate about teaching. He began giving piano lessons from 2016. He worked as a piano instructor for the Cultural Association Tetracordo, and the Ricordi Music School, Opera-Milan in Italy. He also taught piano group classes at CMU as part of his duties for his assistantship.

At the moment Matteo is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Conservatory, studying with Alon Goldstein.
