UMKC Faculty and Staff Awarded for Teaching, Research, Community Engagement
Laughs, cheers and standing ovations permeated the room as University of Missouri-Kansas City faculty and staff were rewarded for their excellence in teaching, research and community engagement during the “Celebrating Excellence” faculty and staff awards ceremony.
“Celebrating Excellence” began eight years ago as an annual tradition for recognizing the achievements of UMKC faculty and staff who go above and beyond. Friends and colleagues joined 23 awardees in Pierson Auditorium April 25 to celebrate their accomplishments in higher education.
A few of the highest awards presented include the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented to Gerald Wyckoff, professor of molecular biology & biochemistry in the School of Biological Sciences; and Trustees Faculty Awards, presented to Jeffrey Johnson, assistant professor of marketing and supply chain management in the Bloch School, and Simon Friedman, professor of pharmaceutical science in the School of Pharmacy.
Each year hundreds of suggestions are submitted to the awards nominating committee, recommending highly qualified faculty and staff for awards based on their departmental and community contributions, mentorship and support of students, and their success in research. “Celebrating Excellence” displays a key component of a nationally recognized university such as UMKC – caring and experienced personnel who are dedicated to the university’s mission of putting students first.
The 2017 “Celebrating Excellence” award ceremony honored the following Bloch School faculty:
Trustees Faculty Scholar Award ($5,000) – Jeffrey Johnson, Assistant Professor, Marketing and Supply Chain Management, Henry W. Bloch School of Business
Elmer F. Pierson Good Teaching Award, Business – Nathan Mauck, Assistant Professor, Finance, Henry W. Bloch School of Business
