Heather Kraus, BBA May 20178

Please provide a brief description of what your internship includes: My internship included mainly working with the recruitment process, so writing job posts, reviewing applicant resumes, and sitting in during interviews. I also worked with payroll and other administrative duties for the HR department. I edited data on Salesforce and organized nondisclosure agreements for the Sales department.

What do you like most about working at your company? They were very open to letting me choose projects that I was interested in.

How did your Bloch education prepare you for this experience? My management classes gave me tons of insight on what companies need to do in order to stay out of trouble. They gave me a good background. The MIS classes also helped a lot as I used excel quite often.

Allie Camenzind, Campus Recruiter with Cerner

I have been at Cerner for about 3 years now. I love Cerner for many reasons, but one of my favorites is the opportunity for growth. If you work hard and provide results you are going to be rewarded. You really do have endless career opportunities at Cerner and I can’t wait to see where my career within Cerner takes me.

–Jeans casual comes in a close second 😉

  1. What makes Bloch students stand out?

Bloch students stand out because they know Kansas City, and (hopefully) know Cerner! They have seen first-hand the impact that Cerner has made in the Kansas City area and they are excited to be a part of the impact when they graduate. They are very well-rounded with their education and some have the opportunity to work with us part-time to gain experience before they graduate.

  1. What was your first job out of college?

Cerner was my first job out of college. I went through our Business Consultant program and worked as a business analyst for about 1 ½ years. It is so rewarding getting to work with candidates who go through the same interview process I went through 3 short years ago. It enables me to put myself in their shoes

to provide the best experience.

  1. What is one piece of advice you would give to students preparing for the job/internship search process?

The one piece of advice I would give is to ask questions! Do your research and if you can’t find the answer to a question, ask. I love when candidates have great questions for me about the role, culture, and even Kansas City in general. It shows they are taking their job hunt seriously and really want to find the best mutual fit for the company and for them.

Meet Dr. Nathan Mauck

  1. How long have you been teaching at Bloch and what makes you continue to stay?
Mauck

Dr. Nathan Mauck, Finance Department

This is my 5th year teaching at Bloch School. I really like being at Bloch. Our students are great to work with, faculty and staff are supportive and our connection with the community is strong.

  1. What do you enjoy most about teaching?

My favorite thing about teaching is interacting with students. Getting to know students and doing what I can to help them reach their goals is the best part of the job.

  1. What advice do you have for students who want to build a good relationship with a faculty member?

Faculty members typically do what they do because they like to help. Reaching out to faculty can be a bit scary, but if you do I think you’ll find that they are excited to get the chance to know you better and they might prove to be a valuable resource.
