UMKC’s highest honor for excellence in teaching will recognize and celebrate UMKC faculty who are consistently superior teachers at the graduate, undergraduate or professional level over an extended period of time. - Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Mentoring - Nomination Deadline: November 1
This award will recognize UMKC graduate faculty advisors with a long-established career at the University who have made significant contributions to higher education through exceptional mentoring. - Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching - Nomination Deadline: November 1
This award recognizes and celebrates teaching excellence among UMKC clinical and teaching faculty.
All UMKC Teaching Award Nomination materials should include:
- A letter of nomination from the Department Chair (or immediate Supervisor) detailing the nominee’s unique qualifications for the award.
- Nominee’s current CV, not to exceed 5 pages, emphasizing material relevant to the award, including a list of all courses taught by the nominee (list of courses can be separate from CV).
- Course evaluation summaries for all courses, including departmental and school norms (averages or median scores). Please do not include raw data or large numbers of scanned evaluation forms. Student comments may be extracted from the original evaluation forms and summarized in a brief document (not to exceed 2 pages)
- Sample Course syllabi (5 maximum)
- Letter of support from the Dean.
- Statement of Teaching Philosophy from Candidate (2-page maximum).
- Additional materials: A maximum of 6 additional letters of support (not to exceed 3 letters from colleagues and/or 3 letters from students) may be included in the portfolio.
- Nomination materials should be in 10 pt or larger font.

- Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Diversity - Nomination Deadline: November 1
This award recognizes and celebrates sustained contributions and an active commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity at UMKC, signaling the university’s commitment to diversity as a core value as well as an enterprise which benefits the entire campus. UMKC faculty, staff, units, departments, and organizations are eligible. - Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Community Engagement - Nomination Deadline: November 1
This award recognizes and celebrates faculty, staff, units and campus organizations that have made engagement with the community a central aspect of their approach to student learning and scholarship. - Chancellor’s Award for Career Contributions to the University - Nomination Deadline: November 1
One of UMKC’s highest honors to a University employee (faculty or staff) who has made significant contributions to higher education at UMKC over the course of his or her career and has significantly enhanced the mission of the University.

- Chancellor’s True Unsung Hero Staff Award - Nomination Deadline: November 1 To recognize and celebrate behind-the-scenes staff members who go above and beyond the call of duty to improve the UMKC experience for students, co-workers, faculty and/or constituents. (Revised 2009)
- Staff Council Dedication Award - Nomination Deadline: November 1 To recognize and celebrate UMKC Staff Council Governing Board members who consistently participate in Staff Council activities above and beyond the call of duty and exceptionally and consistently demonstrate dedication to making UMKC the workplace of choice for all staff.
- Student Affairs’ Student Mentor Staff Award - Nomination Deadline: November 30 This award will recognize a UMKC Staff Member who has made significant contributions to higher education through exceptional student mentoring.

- N.T. Veatch Award for Distinguished Research and Creative Activity – Nomination Deadline: September 15 annually Recognizes distinguished research and other scholarly or creative activity accomplished by UMKC faculty.
- Trustees Faculty Fellowship Award – Nomination Deadline: September 15 annuallyTrustees are recognizing the very best faculty, who have distinguished themselves through scholarship and creativity.
- Trustees Faculty Scholar Award – Nomination Deadline: September 15 annually
Recognizes faculty members who show exceptional promise for outstanding future research and/or creative accomplishments.
